Three-pointers put Spartans over Pontiac

The unbeaten Spartans won their fifth game on Tuesday (Feb. 23), and fourth by a double-figure margin, when they handed visiting Pontiac a 59-48 Illini Prairie Conference boys’ basketball loss.
Four Spartans drilled three-point baskets in the game, including Andrew Beyers and Ty Pence, with two apiece. Cameron Costa and Lukas Hutcherson each netted one three-pointer.
Pence tallied a game-high 27 points. Beyers contributed 12 points and Evan Ingram added eight points. Jackson Rydell scored six points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Pence had six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
SJ-O opened up a 14-4 lead after one quarter and carried a 44-23 lead into the final period.
The Spartans (5-0) return to action on Friday (Feb. 26) at Fairbury against Prairie Central.
