St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ basketball split late-week games

The Spartans pulled off a come-from-behind win on Thursday (March 4) at Stanford Olympia. SJ-O recovered from a 21-14 halftime deficit to capture a 50-47 Illini Prairie Conference triumph.
However, the team was unable to recover from a 9-0 first-quarter deficit at Teutopolis on Saturday (March 6) and suffered a 43-27 loss.
Against Olympia, Ella Armstrong netted a season-high 19 points to lead the rally.
Armstrong drained three three-point shots in the third quarter and followed with an 8-for-8 showing from the free throw line in the final stanza.
For the season, Armstrong has made 29 consecutive free throws.
Payton Jacob chipped in with nine points against Olympia, which was held to one fourth-quarter field goal.
In Saturday’s game, the Spartans didn’t make their first basket until the second quarter and trailed Teutopolis at halftime, 19-9.
Peyton Jones contributed a team-high 10 points. She hit two three-point shots and has made three-pointers in seven straight games.
Ashlynn Lannert scored six points.
SJ-O (7-4) returns to action on Monday (March 8) at home against Monticello.
