Four days after playing in a football game, senior Brady Buss was a double winner in the sprints on Tuesday (April 13) as St. Joseph-Ogden opened the outdoor track and field season at home.
The Spartans hosted Clinton in a non-scored meet. SJ-O won nine of 11 contested events and swept the top two spots in five of the events.
Buss led the way in the 100 meters (11.51 seconds) and the 200 meters (23.35 seconds).
Another two-event winner for SJ-O was senior weightman Hayden Knott. He was triumphant in the shot put (52 feet, 11 inches) and the discus (164 feet, 3 inches).
Buss beat teammates in each of his races. The 100-meter runner-up was Jonathan Poulter (11.86). The second-place finisher in the 200 was Aidan McCorkle (24.32).
Knott also finished in front of teammates. In the discus, freshman Brock Trimble was second (123-4) and earned a win in his varsity debut in the triple jump (32-1).
Max Shonkwiler was the runner-up in the shot put (39-0).
Braden Clampitt was the victor in the 300-meter hurdles (48.96).
In the 800 meters, Spartan runners earned the top two spots. Brandon Mattsey was first (2:04.61) and teammate Charlie Mabry was next (2:13.19).
SJ-O had winning performances from two of its relays.
The 1,600 unit of Mabry, Elijah Mock, Luke Stegall and Mattsey was timed in 3:53.77.
The 3,200 all-freshman foursome of Aiden Armstrong, Holden Jones, Isiah Mock and Carson Maroon stopped the clock in 9:34.41.
SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (April 20) at home in a dual meet with Eureka.
