Heritage baseball rallies to defeat Oakwood

Ryan Cheatham belted a double and a home run on Monday (April 26) for Villa Grove/Heritage, which scored nine runs in the final two innings to rally for a win at Oakwood, 19-13.

Cheatham drove in four runs and scored four runs.

Teammates with two hits were Coffin and Jack Humphrey.

Mason Wyant scored three runs.

Reliever Sam Bender earned the victory. He allowed five hits and struck out two in the final 3 1/3 innings.

On Tuesday (April 27), in its home-opener, VG/Heritage was outscored by Monticello, 15-10.

Coffin homered and drove in four runs for the Hawks. Carson Howard delivered three hits and Luke Zimmerman swatted two hits.

VG/Heritage used five pitchers in the seven-inning game. Starter Dylan Ploense took the loss.

On Wednesday (April 28), Wyant became the first VG/Heritage pitcher to throw a no-hitter this season. He worked all four innings and struck out seven in a 15-0 win at Blue Ridge.

He was backed by a 12-hit attack that featured two hits apiece from Noah Davison, Howard and Tyler Wilson.

Davison, who had a double and a home run, scored four runs and knocked in four runs. Howard delivered three RBI. Jalen Southord drove in two runs.

Heritage (4-1) returns to action on Monday (May 3) at home against Arcola.
