Altenbaumer and Martinie pitch no-hitter against Charleston

Tyler Altenbaumer and Zach Martinie teamed up on the second no-hitter thrown by St. Joseph-Ogden baseball pitchers this spring on Thursday (April 29). SJ-O blanked visiting Charleston 3-0.
Altenbaumer (2-0) worked the first six innings. He struck out a season-high 11 batters and walked two. Martinie retired all three batters he faced in the seventh inning, striking out one.
SJ-O managed just four hits, singles by Altenbaumer, Isaiah Immke, Keaton Nolan and Ty Pence.
Altenbaumer, Nolan and Hayden Brazelton scored the SJ-O runs. Brazelton and Andrew Beyers had runs batted in.
The Spartans’ nine-game winning streak was halted by Mahomet-Seymour on Friday (April 30) in a 5-2 loss at home.
Pence and Crayton Burnett drove in the SJ-O runs. Burnett was the only Spartan with more than one hit. He was 2-for-4.
Brazelton and Xander Rieches scored the SJ-O runs.
Avian Gerdes pitched the first three innings for the Spartans and didn’t allow an earned run, but was saddled with the loss. Rieches worked the final four innings.
SJ-O started a new winning streak on Saturday at Monticello, matching a season’s high for runs scored in a 17-9 triumph.
Altenbaumer drove in five runs and Coby Miller (who was 3-for-3) knocked in four runs. Miller hammered a home run.
Andrew Beyers contributed three hits. Altenbaumer finished with two hits as did Martinie.
The Spartans stole seven bases, including two apiece by Beyers, Brazelton and Immke.
Martinie pitched four innings in relief of Brazelton and earned the win. Martinie walked one and struck out three.
SJ-O (10-1) returns to action on Monday (May 3) at home against St. Thomas More.
