Panthers open season with two wins at Monticello Shootout

The eighth-grade St. Joseph boys’ basketball team opened its season with two victories to win the Monticello Shootout.
The Panthers defeated Tuscola, 36-10, and then needed overtime to edge Monticello, 29-25.
Against Tuscola, Trevor Ames led the way with 10 points. Ryker Lockhart added nine points.
Against Monticello, Ames, Lockhart and Will Haley all totaled seven points.
Since the regular season started, St. Joseph has been victorious in two of its next four games, dropping a 52-27 decision to Tolono Unity and then running past Villa Grove, 39-15, and Westville, 40-26, before losing to Schlarman Academy, 44-32.
Against Unity, Harper hit nine points and Ames added seven.
Against Villa Grove, Lockhart was the high scorer with seven points. Ames and Bryson Houchens each netted six points.
Against Westville, Ames registered a season-high 16 points and Haley also had his high game with 11 points.
Against Schlarman, Ames generated 13 points.
