Adena Paul scored eight points on Monday (Jan. 24), but the Heritage girls’ junior varsity basketball team dropped a 38-12 decision at Milford.
Paul also had two rebounds and a steal. Gracie Tate wound up with four rebounds and two points. Bailee Lubben finished with two points and two rebounds.
Heritage led, 16-2, after one quarter, but the Hawks were within a 16-6 score at halftime.
“Milford shot lights out,” Heritage coach Kami Hetman said. “They couldn’t miss. It was fun to watch their girls shoot because their form was perfect and they were always ready to go.”
“Very athletic and talented group of girls.”
Heritage had difficulty getting shots to drop.
“We, on the other hand, could not make a basket,” Hetman said. “Sometimes, games are just like that. The shots don’t fall.
“I told the girls that all they could do was keep shooting and eventually some would go in. If we shot better than 15 percent from the field, we could have had a chance at winning.”
Even in the setback, Hetman said there were bright spots.
“I was really proud of their defense,” she said. “They held them scoreless in the second quarter after we made some defensive adjustments.
“My favorite thing about this team though is that you’d never know they lost by that much. They are always so positive and energetic regardless of what the scoreboard says.”
Heritage’s JV team (0-8) will return to action on Thursday (Feb. 3) at Westville.
