Spartans end week with two losses

Ty Pence scored 19 points on Friday (Feb. 11), but was the only St. Joseph-Ogden player in double figures during a 67-44 boys’ basketball loss at Tolono Unity.

Pence also pulled down four rebounds.

Logan Smith and Coy Taylor each scored eight points for the Spartans, who fell behind 14-5 after one quarter and 34-22 at halftime.

Hayden Brazelton had a team-high two assists.

On Saturday (Feb. 12), Pence poured in 32 points, but SJ-O fell to Pana, 59-54, in the Riverton Shootout.

Pana scored the first five points, but the Spartans were within 28-27 at halftime and took the lead in the third period. The last SJ-O lead was 47-46 with 1:15 left in the third stanza.

Andrew Beyers netted 12 points and Taylor ended with even. Luke Landrus cleared a team-high nine rebounds. Pence had five boards and Smith handed out four assists.

SJ-O (20-8) returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 15) at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
