Six Oakwood players had hits in each of the team’s first two baseball games as the Comets salvaged a split in the road series.
On Monday (March 14), Oakwood dropped a 6-3 decision at Westville. On Tuesday (March 15), the Comets rebounded with an 11-3 win at Danville.
Socking hits in each game for Oakwood were Dalton Hobick, Josh Young, Matthew Miller, Brody Taflinger, Travis Tiernan and Lucas Huchel.
Taflinger had a double and Hobick contributed a triple at Westville.
The Comets carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning, but Westville wiped the lead away with a four-run inning.
Tiernan pitched three innings and didn’t allow an earned run or a walk. He struck out three batters.
Young (3-for-4), Taflinger (2-for-3) and Hobick (2-for-4) were the catalysts in a 13-hit outburst at Danville.
Young, Grant Powell and Griffin Trees each swatted doubles. Joshua Ruch stole two bases.
Starting pitcher Huchel worked three innings and gained the win. He allowed one hit in his stint and fanned six batters.
The Comets scored twice in the top of the first inning, and never trailed.
Oakwood (1-1) returns to action on Thursday (March 17) in its home-opener against Casey-Westfield.
