Canamore, Wagner take top spots in discus at Tuscola Invitational

Willis Canamore and Cam Wagner finished 1-2 in the seventh-grade division of the discus on Saturday (April 23) at the Tuscola East Prairie boys’ track and field invitational.

Canamore’s winning toss was 118 feet, 7 inches. Wagner was next at 103-7. Canamore also netted a runner-up finish in the shot put (33 feet, 8 inches) and Wagner was fourth (30 feet, 5 inches).

Canamore ran eighth in the 100 meters (14.56 seconds).

Also finishing in second for the seventh graders were Brayden Waller (200 meters in 27.42 seconds), Tyler Hess (800 meters in 2:44.03), Waylon Jones (1,600 meters in 5:30.07 and long jump at 13 feet,10 inches).

The school’s 1,600-meter relay also captured second in 4:37.90. The team’s runners were Patrick Clark, Waller, Hess and Jones.

Other team leaders were Clark (third in the 1,600 meters in 5:43.97), Hess (fifth in the long jump at 12 feet, 10 inches), Zach Benoit (fifth in the 400 meters in 1:09.73) and Collin Burnett (sixth in the 800 meters in 2:52.15).

One other relay also fared well and earned the fifth-place position.

The 800-meter relay consisted of Conlin Gill, Mason Osterbur, Maddyx Martin and Logan Umbarger. Their time was 2:12.18.

In the team chase, the St. Joseph seventh-graders placed second with 73 points.

The school’s eighth-grade squad ended in fourth place with 76 points.

St. Joseph registered second-place finishes in six individual events, including two by Lance Retz (800 meters in 2:23.23 and 1,600 meters in 5:07.53).

Other teammates who finished in the No. 2 spot were Tim Blackburn-Kelley (100 meters in 12.36 seconds), Wyatt Wertz (400 meters in 1:01.73), Will Franklin (discus at 105 feet) and Colton Overstreet (long jump at 15 feet, 7 inches).

Blackburn-Kelley tied for third in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches) and finished third in the 200 meters (25.71 seconds).

The 400-meter relay unit of Canamore, Waller, Logan Xiao and Blackburn-Kelley was second in 52.21 seconds.

The school’s 1,600 relay placed fifth in 4:34.31. Sharing the baton were Overstreet, Luke Tranel, Patrick McMahon and Nathan Daly.

Other individual leaders for St. Joseph’s eighth-graders were Landon Smith (fourth in the pole vault at 6 feet, 6 inches and eighth in the 800 meters in 2:49.22), Quinn Stahl (fifth in the pole vault at 6 feet), Overstreet (sixth in the 1600 meters in 5:55.99),Will Franklin (seventh in the shot put at 26 feet, 6 inches), Brandon  Goodwin (ninth in the shot put at 25 feet, 7 inches), McMahon (10th in the 200 meters in 29.92 seconds) and Xiao (10th in the 100 meters in 13.79 seconds).
