SJO softball seasons comes to an end

St. Joseph-Ogden’s softball team suffered a semifinal-round exit from its own Class 2A regional on Tuesday (May 17) with a 5-2 loss to Paris.
Hallie Brazelton knocked two of the Spartans’ five hits. Alyssa Acton, Peyton Jones and Addie Martinie each collected one hit.
Jones and Shayne Immke scored the team’s runs. Martinie drove in both of the SJ-O runs.
Acton (8-2) pitched five innings and took the loss. She walked two batters and struck out three. Madison Stevens worked the fifth and final inning.
On Monday (May 16), Kelsey Martlage pitched a complete-game six-hitter as SJ-O ended the softball regular season with an 11-1 conquest of Charleston.
Immke scored four runs and Addison Frick tallied three runs for the Spartans. Immke collected three hits, Martlage had two hits and Frick contributed one hit.
Immke notched two runs batted in.
Immke’s batting streak, which had covered 52 games over the past two seasons, came to an end in the regional setback.
For the season, Immke was one of eight Spartans to hit at least .350. She had a team-best .651 batting average (54 for 83).
Other team batting leaders were Jones (.496), Martinie (.467), Brazelton (.397), Frick (.395), Acton (.390), Kennedy Hudson (360) and Jacey Lewis (.350).
Martinie (10) and Immke (9) were the home runs leaders. Jones and Martinie were the RBI leaders (43 apiece). Immke (53) and Frick (45) were the leaders in runs scored.
Immke (27) and Martinie (23) were the leaders in extra-base hits. Jones (26) and Immke (18) were the leaders in stolen bases.
Acton was the team-leader in innings pitched (83 2/3), strikeouts (61), wins (8) and earned run average (1.76).
Other squad members with at least 10 innings pitched and ERAs under 3.00 were Martlage (2.21) and Immke (2.80).
The Spartans’ seniors were Hudson, Lewis, Martlage, Jessica Palmer and Taylor Wells.
SJ-O ends the season with a 25-9-1 overall record.
