Mustangs wrap up regular season with additional wins

Eighth-Grade Night was a huge success for Prairieview Ogden on Thursday (Sept. 1) as the Mustangs topped visiting Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 10-1.
PVO started an all-eighth-grade lineup, except for one seventh-grader.
The eighth-graders are pitcher Jonathon Couture, catcher Dalton York, second baseman Jack Wear, shortstop Kaden Wedig, third baseman Jaxson LaBounty, left fielder Donaven Taylor, center fielder Aiden Hundley and right fielder Dennis Reinburg.
The team’s other eighth-grader is starting catcher Garrett Loschen, who is sidelined for the season with a finger injury.
Junior first baseman Lane McKinney joined the eighth-graders in the lineup.
PVO took the lead with a second-inning run and broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth on a two-run double by Wedig.
York stroked two hits and swiped three bases. McKinney scored two runs and Hundley stole two bases.
Couture pitched 6 2/3 innings, scattering three singles. He walked three and struck out a season-high 11 batters.
Casen Goff provided last-out relief help and needed just one pitch to register the final out.
On Saturday (Sept. 3), PVO rallied at Villa Grove to post a 4-3 victory.
Villa Grove took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, though none of the runs charged to York were earned. In five innings, York walked three and struck out eight.
Jameson Ehler took the mound the last two innings and didn’t allow a hit. He walked three and fanned three.
McKinney and Hundley each socked two hits.
The Mustangs took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring twice.
On Tuesday (Sept. 6), PVO pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 3-2 win at Gifford.
It was the 13th consecutive win for PVO and the second one-run triumph in four days.
Ehler pitched the first four innings, yielding three hits while walking four and striking out seven. Wedig (5-0) picked up the win thanks to a scoreless three-inning relief stint. He fanned seven and walked no one.
The Mustangs were limited to two singles, one each by Hundley and Logan Wedig. Kaden Wedig scored twice, once in the second inning and again in the seventh.
Hundley tallied the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning.
“Great pitching on both sides,” PVO coach Greg Immke said.
Gifford pitchers struck out every PVO batter at least one.
PVO (13-2) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 8) at Bismarck-Henning and will close the regular season at home on Friday against Champaign St. Matthew.
Gifford and PVO have been assigned to the same regional, which Gifford will host.
