PVO starts basketball season with six wins

The Prairieview Ogden seventh-grade girls’ basketball team has won each of its first six games this season.

PVO opened with a 29-28 victory at home against Cissna Park on Sept. 20. Greta Goldenstein scored nine points and both Kellyn Irwin and Atleigh Miller chipped in with eight points.

Two days later, the Mustangs overpowered Chrisman, 40-9, in a road contest with Irwin netting 11 points, Makayla Hesterberg adding 10 and Miller scoring seven.

On Sept. 26, PVO triumphed over Hoopeston, 43-2, at home. Hesterberg hit 14 points and Miller tallied 12 points.

The next day, the Mustangs carved out a 28-16 win at Bismarck-Henning, led by Miller’s season-high 21-point outburst. Goldenstein added three points.

On Sept. 29, PVO defeated Salt Fork at home, 36-20. Miller tossed in 16 points and Korinne Travis had six points.

The Mustangs continued their winning ways in a new month, topping Oakwood at home, 25-17, on Oct. 6. Isabella Frerichs led the way with seven points and Miller ended with six points.

The 6-0 PVO seventh-graders return to action on Monday (Oct. 17) at Tolono Unity.

The short-handed PVO eighth-grade team (which has just four eighth-graders on the roster) promotes seventh-graders in order to play their schedule. The Mustangs are 1-5, though two of the setbacks are by no more than four points.

PVO opened with a 41-23 loss to Cissna Park. Irwin hit eight points and Olivia Berlatsky added five points.

In a 32-12 victory over Chrisman, Emerson Williams made a game-high eight points. Irwin and Miller each netted six points.

In a 21-17 loss to Hoopeston, Miller tallied seven points and Williams contributed five points.

Miller notched 11 points during a 31-24 loss to Bismarck-Henning. Anna Hammond, Irwin and Williams each collected four points.

PVO lost at home to Salt Fork, 39-18. Irwin notched six points while Hammond and Williams each tallied four points.

In a narrow 24-21 setback at home to Oakwood, Miller tossed in 10 points. Goldenstein and Travis each scored four points.

The eighth-graders also return to action on Monday (Oct. 17) at Tolono Unity.
