Oakwood takes third in Comet Classic

Junior Nikita Taylor tallied 11 points and Oakwood held Hoopeston Area to two points in the fourth-quarter as the Comets held on for a 36-28 triumph in the third-place game of the girls’ Comet Classic basketball tournament in Fithian on Friday (Nov. 25).
Oakwood’s lead entering the final eight minutes was a tenuous 27-26 margin.
Addie Wright netted 10 points and Jaydah Arrowsmith added seven points in the third-place game.
On Wednesday (Nov. 23), the Comets dropped a 59-32 decision to Tri-County in a showdown that determined which school advanced to the championship game against Tuscola.
Arrowsmith hit a team-high 11 points. Cherokee Hanner contributed six points.
On Monday (Nov. 21), Wright poured in 18 points, sparking the Comets to a 53-25 victory over eventual fifth-place finisher Casey-Westfield in second-round action.
Arrowsmith supported Wright with a 15-point showing that included one three-pointer. Bella Bradford chipped in with seven points.
Oakwood (3-2) returns to action on Monday (Nov. 28) at Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.
