Elsbernd and Schmitz place in two events at Unity Invitational

Emily Elsbernd and Ally Schmitz were two-event placers for the St. Joseph-Ogden girls’ track and field team on Friday (April 14) in the 19-school Unity Invitational, in Tolono.
Schmitz’s points came in the hurdles. She finished seventh in the 100-meter event (personal-best 18.41 seconds) and took ninth in the 300-meter event (personal-best 54.92 seconds).
Elsbernd’s placements were in the jumps. She ended eighth in both the long jump (14 feet, 4 inches) and the triple jump (29 feet).
Three other Spartans were placers in individual events.
Payton Clark was the runner-up in the pole vault (10 feet), Macy Reed-Thompson tied for third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches) and Kaytlyn Baker ran third in the 300-meter hurdles (personal-best 50.56 seconds).
Two of SJ-O’s relays placed well.
The 3,200-meter grouping of Baker, Sophia Kasper, Hannah Mock and Helene Jones wound up in third place with a time of 10:47.01.
In the 1,600-meter relay, teaming up for a seventh-place finish were Kasper, Madison Clampitt, Mock and Jones. Their cumulative time was 4:31.22.
In the team standings, Tuscola (109 points) edged Unity (101 points). SJ-O took eighth with 23 points.
SJ-O will return to action on Tuesday (April 18) in a three-school meet at Tolono Unity.
