Ashbrook and Sands record personal-bests at Pirate Invitational

Heritage juniors Aidan Ashbrook and Cohen Sands each recorded personal-best times on Tuesday (April 18) in the 12-school Pirate Invitational boys’ track and field meet in Toledo.
Ashbrook – returning to action following an injury and running with a cast on his arm – hit his lifetime best in the 3,200 meters. He was timed in 12 minutes, 21.35 seconds and finished fifth. Ashbrook also placed 10th in the 400 meters (1:00.98)
Cohen placed 10th in the 800 meters, with a final clocking of 2:25.46.
The Hawks had three other top-10 placers in individual events. Rowan Denmark-Collins captured sixth in the 1,600 meters (5:17.08), Eli Denmark-Collins was ninth in the 1,600 meters (5:31.00) and Hunter Montgomery ended ninth in the 3,200 meters (12:36.20).
Heritage had two of its relays fare well.
The 3,200-meter foursome of Eli Denmark-Collins, Sands, Rowan Denmark-Collins and Zach Ruwe crossed in third place, registering a time of 9:37.04.
The school’s 1,600-meter relay took sixth in 4:02.87. The runners were Rowan Denmark-Collins, Sands, Timmy Wilson and Ruwe.
Newton was the meet champion with 117 points. Heritage tied for 10th with 10 points.
The Hawks will return to action on Thursday (April 20) at Westville.
