Bryson McDaniel places in Top 10 at Spartan Classic

Bryson McDaniel turned in two top-10 performances for the Oakwood boys’ track and field team on Friday (April 27) in the Spartan Classic at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.
McDaniel placed seventh in the triple jump (39 feet, 4 inches) and ninth in the long jump (personal-best 19 feet, 9 inches).
Teammate Doug Myers finished 16th in the discus (114 feet, 3 inches).
Oakwood’s 1,600-meter relay ended in 11th place with a time of 3 minutes, 54.19 seconds. The relay runners are Macen Phillips, Kaden McDaniel, Jakob Rupp and Connor Smith.
In some events, there were also freshman-sophomore events.
Smith captured top-five finishes in three sprint races. He was third in the frosh-soph 100 meters (12.02 seconds), fourth in the frosh-soph 200 meters (24.13 seconds) and fifth in the frosh-soph 400 meters (personal-best 54.20 seconds).
Phillip posted a personal-best 56.25 time in the 400 and was ninth.
In the 1,600 meters, Thomas Wells finished 12th in 5:00.02.
Comets, besides McDaniel and Smith, who recorded their peronal-bests were Macen Phillips (ninth in frosh-soph 400 meters in 56.25), Jakob Rupp (22nd in varsity 800 meters in 2:18.09), Tucker Pesek (23rd in varsity 110-meter hurdles in 20:05), Noah Phillips (23rd in varsity 100 meters in 12.53 seconds), Grant Brewer (24th in varsity 800 meters in 2:19.46), Jack Ajster (27th in varsity 300-meter hurdles 50.55 seconds and 27th in varsity 200 meters in 27.71 seconds) and Alex Wells (35th in varsity 300-meter hurdles in 54.29 seconds).
The Comets wound up 17th in the 28-school event.
Oakwood returns to action on Tuesday (May 2) at Seeger, Ind.
