By Fred Kroner
Heritage teammates Drew Williams, a senior, and Joel Bear, also a senior, qualified for the one-Class IHSA bass fishing state tournament by placing second on Friday (May 5) in a sectional tournament at Lake Shelbyville.
The teammates – who placed sixth at state together in 2022 – weighed in fish totaling 10 pounds and 14 ounces.
They finished just behind Casey-Westfield’s sectional champions, who had a combined weight of 11 pounds, 1 ounce.
The third state-qualifying berth from Lake Shelbyville was Windsor, which weighed in fish totaling 10 pounds, 3 ounces.
The state tournament, at Carlyle Lake, is a two-day event scheduled for Friday (May 19) and Saturday (May 20).
Williams is a third-time state-qualifier. He was part of a two-member Heritage team that placed 19th at state in 2021.
He was unable to compete as a freshman when the IHSA canceled the bass fishing tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
