Spartans win Doc Acklin Invite

Senior Carson Maroon was the individual champion on Saturday (Aug. 26), leading the St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ cross-country team to the title of the 13-school Doc Acklin Memorial Invitational in Paris.
Maroon ran the 3-mile layout in 16 minutes, 46.7 seconds. He was victorious by 32.5 seconds.
Three Spartan teammates placed among the top six finishers in a race with 119 competitors.
Senior Aden Armstrong finished fourth in 17:35.7. Sophomore Lance Retz was fifth (17:51.2) and was followed by sixth-place runner Jack Fisher, a junior (17:55.6).
Other SJ-O leaders were Mason Guido (23rd in 19:11.7), Holden Jones (27th in 19:19.9), Colin Burnett (29th in 19:27.6), Nate Farney (30th in 19:27.7) and Joe Griebat (33rd in 19:35.2).
The Spartans compiled a team score of 39 points to far outdistance runner-up Toledo Cumberland (98 points).
SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 2) in the Chrisman Cowchip Classic.
