By FRED KRONER
Jameson Ehler drilled a three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning on Saturday (Aug. 26) as Prairieview Ogden overcame a deficit and surged into the lead for good against Oakwood. The Mustangs went on to claim a 9-6 victory in the junior high baseball team.
Ehler had four RBI in the game.
Lane McKinney and Logan Wedig both scored three runs. McKinney belted a triple and knocked in two runs. He reached base all four times he batted, walking on three plate appearances.
McKinney picked up the pitching win. In 5 2/3 innings, he fanned 12 hitters. Royce Loschen and Wedig combined to pitch the final 1 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
On Monday (Aug. 28), Wyatt McKinney drilled a tie-breaking single in the sixth inning, driving in two runs as the Mustangs rallied to defeat Rantoul St. Malachy 8-7.
For the day, McKiney had three hits and four RBI. Ehler also socked three hits and scored two runs. Lane McKinney scored two runs and had two hits.
Casen Goff had two hits and drove in the team’s eighth run, which proved decisive when St. Malachy added one late run.
Lucas Waters and Kavin VanEtta also stroked two hits apiece.
Jebb Aden pitched the first three innings. He was relieved by Cale Ackerman, who threw two innings and picked up the win. He allowed one hit in his stint.
Wedig worked the final two hitless innings and registered a save.
On Tuesday (Aug. 29), VanEtta made his pitching debut for PVO a successful one. The sixth-grader worked six innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs in the Mustangs 11-1 triumph at home over Rossville-Alvin. VanEtta walked three hitters and struck out five.
He got all of the offensive support he would need during a three-run second inning.
Waters scored three runs. Both Lane and Wyatt McKinney knocked in two runs. Wedig and Lane McKinney tallied two runs.
The Mustangs drew 14 walks in the game (including four by Goff each time he batted and three by leadoff hitter Wedig) and stole nine bases. Swiping two bases apiece were Goff and Wedig.
PVO has a 7-1 season record and returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 31) at Gifford.
