Oakwood soccer holds Monticello scoreless

Ethan Merritt and Jacob Pricer netted first-half goals for the Oakwood/Salt Fork soccer team and the Comets held visiting Monticello scoreless until the second half in a 3-1 non-conference triumph.
Brody Taflinger, who had one assist, added the team’s final goal on a penalty kick. Macen Phillips also assisted on one goal.
Jakob Rupp finished with one save.
The Comets held a 16-5 edge on total shots.
On Tuesday (Aug. 29), the Comets suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Hoopeston Area.
The visitors scored the only goal of the first half. Jacob Pricer, assisted by Brody Taflinger, scored the equalizer in the second half before the Cornjerkers added the decisive goal.
Jakob Rupp produced a season-high nine saves.
Hoopeston held a 16-11 edge on total shot attempts.
Oakwood/Salt Fork (2-2) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 31) at home against Iroquois West.
