Spartans finish second at Mattoon Invitational

Addie Roesch smacked a season-high 16 kills on Thursday (Aug. 31) as St Joseph-Ogden rallied from a one-set deficit to win at Teutopolis, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15.
Roesch also recorded seven digs and two service aces.
Halle Brazelton handed out a season-high 31 assists to go with eight digs. Reese Wheatley recorded a season-high six blocks to go with three kills.
Peyton Williams slapped 11 kills and added six digs and one ace. Sadie Ericksen had seven digs and one ace.
On Saturday (Sept. 2), SJ-O won four of five matches and finished second in the Mattoon Invitational.
The Spartans took down Pana (21-25, 25-18,15-6), Mount Vernon (25-16, 25-17), Mattoon (25-11, 25-20) and Warrensburg-Latham (25-20, 25-14) before falling to Taylorville in the finals (25-23, 25-17).
Roesch, the tournament Most Valuable Player, amassed 48 kills, 31 digs, five assists and three blocks for the day.
All-tournament selection Williams totaled 36 kills, 32 digs, two assists and one block for the five matches.
Brazelton handed out 95 assists and collected 38 digs for the tournament. Teammate Helene Jones wound up with 11 kills and nine blocks.
SJ-O (9-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 5) at Downs Tri-Valley.
