Wells leads Comets at Cowchip Classic

Junior Thomas Wells -placed 10th on Saturday (Sept. 2) in the boys’ race for No. 1 runners in the Chrisman Cowchip Classic cross-country meet.
Wells’ 3-mile time was 18 minutes, 58.7 seconds.
The Comets did not have enough runners to be scored as a team.
The other Oakwood/Salt Fork leaders were junior Brayden Edwards, 11th in the flight for No. 2 runners (20:06.9), sophomore Ben Darling (13th in the flight for No. 4 runners in 21:50.0), sophomore Alex Wells (13th in the flight for No. 5 runners in 22:17.1) and junior Logan Henthorn (10th in the flight for No. 6 runners in 21:52.2).
Oakwood/Salt Fork will return to action on Tuesday (Sept. 5) at Kickapoo State Park against St. Joseph-Ogden, Armstrong-Potomac and Hoopeston Area.
In the girls’ division of the Cowchip Classic, the Comets had four entries.
In the race for No. 2 runners, freshman Callie Richardson ran seventh (22:09.9). In the race for No. 4 runners, sophomore Zoe Moudy was 16th in 29:23.6. In the race for No. 5 runners, freshman Lanie Birge was 15th in 31:16.1. In the race for No. 6 runners, freshman Miley Pierce was 14th in 33:05.7.
