Tessa Walker wins race in Mahomet

Led by individual champion Tessa Walker, the St. Joseph Junior High girls’ cross-country team placed second in a six-school meet at Lake of the Woods in Mahomet, on Thursday (Sept. 14).
Mahomet-Seymour snared team honors with 27 points, followed by the Panthers (43 points). Trailing them were Mount Zion (59), Holy Cross (30) and SMART Academy (155).
Walker ran the 2-mile course in 13 minutes and nine seconds, which gave her a 14-second victory over the runner-up.
The Panthers had seven of the top 24 runners in a field of118 participants.
Other team leaders were Tabby Brown (fourth in 13:25), Kennedi Dean (ninth in 13:40), Ava Overstreet (12th in 13:59), Avarie Dietiker (17th in 14:16), Charlene Barbee (21st in 14:23) and Claire Dirksmeyer (24th in 14:44).
St. Joseph returns to action on Friday (Sept. 22) in its own St. Joseph Invitational.
