Franzen and Burkhalter lead Spartans at Classic

Savanna Franzen placed 16^th and Chloe Burkhalter ended in 20^th on Saturday (Sept. 23) in the 51^st Spartan Classic girls’ cross-country invitational.

Franzen’s 3-mile time was 19 minutes, 03.08 seconds. Burkhalter was timed in 19:19.39.

In the 22-school team race, host SJ-O placed ninth with 309 points. Meet champion Tolono Unity had a team score of 39 points. Runner-up Shelbyville had a score of 79 points.

The Spartans’ other participants were Sophia Kasper (91^st in 23:02.34), Sydney Steinbach (98^th in 23:16.92) and Kiah Riesel (100^th in 23:37.53).

SJ-O returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 30) at Terre Haute, Ind., in the Nike XC Town Twilight.
