Spartan runners compete at Nike XC Town Twilight cross-country meet

St. Joseph-Ogden teammates Carson Maroon and Aden Armstrong placed among the top 75 on Saturday (Sept. 30) in the 44-school Nike XC Town Twilight boys’ cross-country meet at Terre Haute, Ind.
In a field with 536 participants, Maroon was 29th with a 5,000-meter time of 16 minutes, 38.2 seconds. Armstrong ran 71st in 17:10.5.
Other Spartan competitors in the varsity race were Jack Fisher (107th in 17:33.7), Holden Jones (210th in 18:18.1), Joe Griebat (255th in 18:41.5), Colin Burnett (294th in 19:00.9), Nate Farney (317th in 19:16.1) and Isiah Mock (468th in 21:44.3).
SJ-O placed 22nd in the team standings with a composite score of 562 points. Meet champion Mount Prospect posted a winning score of 90 points.
In a 516-runner junior varsity race, SJ-O participants were Hayden Douglas (258th in 20:59.3), E.J. Beckett (260th in 20:59.5) and Cyrus Zaden (446th in 24:32.8).

SJ-O had two entries in the girls’ 5,000-meter varsity race.
Savanna Franzen placed 191st in a field of 397 runners with a 5,000-meter time of 20:33.8. Teammate Chloe Burkhalter was 249th in 21:17.1.
Three other Spartans ran in the girls’ junior varsity race.
Sophia Kasper was 116th in a field of 225 runners. Her 5,000-meter time was 26:09.0. Kiah Riesl finished 132nd in 26:44.4 and Hannah Mock was 162nd in 27:52.3.
SJ-O will return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 3) in the Illini Prairie Conference Meet at Chillicothe IVC.
