The St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ golf team fell short on Monday (Oct. 2) in its bid to secure a state tournament berth.
The Spartans finished in 10th place in the Class 1A sectional at the Kankakee Elks Golf Course.
Only the top three teams qualified for state.
The SJ-O leader was senior Ashten Cafarelli, who fired an 83 and tied for 34th in the 134-player event.
Trevor Ames posted a season-best 90 and tied for 55th.
Other Spartans who played at the sectional were Ty Buss (92), Talan Miller (93), Devan Swisher (95) and Asher Pruemer (97).
The SJ-O seniors, besides Cafarelli, are Buss and Miller.
Cafarelli posted the team’s low score in all 14 meets that SJ-O competed in this season and finished with a nine-hole stroke average of 39.4. Miller (45.7) had the team’s second-best stroke average.
