Spartans to play in Regional Championship game after win over Hoopeston

St. Joseph-Ogden’s volleyball team cruised into the championship match of the Watseka Class 2A regional tournament by dominating Hoopeston Area, 25-7, 25-4 on Tuesday (Oct. 24) in a semifinal match.
The Spartans (29-5) will seek their first 30-win season since 2019 when they take on the host Watseka Warriors in the Thursday (Oct. 26) title match at 6 p.m.
Against Hoopeston, Peyton Williams knocked 10 kills to go with four digs and one service ace. Addie Roesch accumulated seven aces, seven digs and six aces while Halle Brazelton totaled 21 assists and three digs.
Williams, Roesch and Brazelton are all seniors.
Top-seeded SJ-O and fourth-seeded Watseka (25-8) did not play one another in the regular season.
The Spartans are chasing their 10th regional crown in Abby McDonald’s 16 years as head coach and fifth in a row for years the IHSA has conducted a postseason series. (There was no tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19).
