Macie Russell advances to IHSA State meet

Senior Macie Russell was the lone Oakwood/Salt Fork runner to advance to the IHSA girls’ Class 1A cross-country state meet based on performances in the Saturday (Oct. 28) Decatur Sectional.

Russell was timed in 19 minutes, 28.83 seconds on a 3-mile course at South Shores Park. She placed 13th overall.

Five teammates joined her at the sectional.

Running their final races of the season were freshman Callie Richardson (30th in 20:22.84), sophomore Zoe  Moudy (141st in 26:35.93), freshman Lanie Birge (144th in 27:16.16), sophomore Macie Kinney (147th in 30:53.43) and freshman Miley Pierce (148th in 32:59.30).

In the team chase, the Comets finished 17th in the 20-school field with 414 points.

The schools advancing their entire team to state were Tolono Unity (45), Shelbyville (118), Robinson (161), St. Thomas More (186), Effingham St. Anthony (190) and Clinton (198).

Russell will run in the first state race on Saturday (Nov. 4) at Detweiller Park, in Peoria. The girls’ Class 1A race will start at 9 a.m.
