Comets secure back-to-back wins to begin the week

Oakwood’s boys’ basketball team picked up two wins in two nights to start the week.
The Comets dispatched visiting Milford, 69-46, on Tuesday (Jan. 9) and then followed up on Wednesday (Jan. 10) with a 68-52 win at Hoopeston Area.
Jackson Dudley drilled four three-point shots and led Oakwood against Milford with 19 points. Brody Taflinger also drained four three-pointers and finished with 18 points. Alec Harrison contributed 16 points.
Adding to the team’s scoring totals were Cort Vermillion (nine points), Carsen Dudley (four points) and Bryson McDaniel (three points).
Vermilion also connected on three three-pointers.
The Comets broke from a 12-12 first-period tie and led at halftime, 29-21.
Against Hoopeston, Vermilion went off for 22 points (including five three-pointers). Jackson Dudey notched 15 points. Taflinger totaled 13 points. Carsen Dudley chipped in with nine points, McDaniel ended with six points and Harrison hit three points.
Both Dudleys finished with three three-pointers. Taflinger made one.
Oakwood led, 20-4, after one quarter.
Second-seeded Oakwood (14-5) returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 13) in the Vermilion County Tournament at Danville Area Community College against seventh-seeded Georgetown-Ridge Farm in the 6:15 p.m. game.
