Comets continue to win in Vermilion County boys’ basketball tournament

Three Oakwood players scored in double figures on Tuesday (Jan. 16) as the Comets dispatched Armstrong-Potomac, 54-49, in a Vermilion County boys’ basketball tournament game at Danville Area Community College’s Mary Miller Gymnasium

Alec Harrison led the way, popping in 16 points. Brody Taflinger notched 13 points and Jackson Dudley ended with 10 points.

Bryson McDaniel scored seven points. Cort Vermillion made five points and Carsen Dudley sunk a three-pointer to account for his three points.

Other Comets with baskets from three-point range were Taflinger (two), Jackson Dudley (one) and McDaniel (one).

Oakwood spurted into an 18-6 lead after one quarter and led, 25-19, at halftime.

Second-seeded Oakwood (16-5) has won five consecutive games and will take on third-seeded Hoopeston Area on Thursday (Jan. 18) in an 8 p.m. game to decide if the Comets will play in the Saturday championship game.
