Blackburn-Kelly’s Nine Strikeouts Not Enough as SJ-O Softball Falls 4-2 to Westville in Tight Contest

Timera Blackburn-Kelly struck out nine batters in five innings on Tuesday (March 19), but visiting Westville scored twice in the seventh inning to edge the Spartans, 4-2, in a non-conference softball game.
Blackburn-Kelly yielded four hits and issued three walks before reliever Amelia Huckstadt worked the last two innings.
SJ-O was limited to four singles, three of which were bunts by Addison Frick, Grace Osterbur and Blackburn-Kelly. Emma McKinney recorded the team’s other hit.
Frick and Blackburn-Kelly scored the team’s runs. Driving in runs were Frick and Osterbur.
SJ-O (1-1) returns to action on Thursday (March 21) at home on Randy Wolken Field against Champaign Central.
