Huckstadt Throws Second No-Hitter as St. Joseph-Ogden Softball Crushes Paxton-Buckley-Loda 19-1

Sophomore Amelia Huckstadt pitched her second complete-game no-hitter on Thursday (April 11) as the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team overpowered visiting Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 19-1, in an Illini Prairie Conference contest at Randy Wolken Field.
In four innings, Huckstadt walked two and struck out seven. The lone PBL run scored when a player reached on an error and then raced around the bases on an overthrow.
Eleven SJ-O players produced hits, including Addison Frick who was 3-for-4. Adelyn Jannusch was 2-for-3.
Ellie Ward and Hayden Dahl made the most of their one hit. Ward collected four RBI and Dahl knocked in three runs, giving her seven in her last two games.
Also registering hits for the Spartans were Chloe Harper, Grace Osterbur, Kenzie Atwood, Addy Martinie, Emma McKinney, Halle Brazelton and Chayse Palmer.
Frick and Martinie both drove in two runs.
Timera Blackburn-Kelly, Frick and Osterbur all tallied three runs. Harper and Martinie scored twice apiece.
Also contributing to the team’s highest single-game scoring output of the season – by scoring one run apiece – were Jannusch, Brazelton, Thea Smith, Ward, Dahl and Ashlyn Miller.
On Friday (April 12), SJ-O split two games at Mattoon, dropping an 8-6 decision to Marion and then beating Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 12-1.
Dahl and McKinney each socked three hits against Marion. Osterbur delivered two hits.
McKinney belted a double and two triples. Martinie’s lone hit was a triple. She registered two RBI as did McKinney. Frick also had a hit in the game.
Frick and Osterbur both scored two runs.
Madison Stevens pitched 3 2/3 innings and took the loss. She walked no one and struck out three hitters. Huckstadt worked 2 1/3 innings in relief and also recorded three strikeouts.
Against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Martinie continued her power display. She pounded two hits – both triples – and knocked in three runs.
Brazelton, Osterbur and Ward also produced two hits apiece. Frick, Martinie and Ward all tallied two runs.
Blackburn-Kelly (6-0) pitched a complete game, yielding two walks and striking out seven hitters.
On Saturday (April 13), Ward and Blackburn-Kelly crushed home runs as SJ-O downed Herscher 5-2 at Randy Wolken Field.
Ward ended with two hits and three RBI. Brazelton scored two runs.
Stevens pitched five innings, issuing one walk and striking out six batters. She allowed only one earned run.
Blackburn-Kelly finished with a two-inning scoreless stint in relief. She allowed two hits and two walks.
SJ-O (13-5 overall) is 3-0 in Illini Prairie Conference games. The Spartans return to action on Monday (April 15) at Prairie Central.
