Oakwood Clings to Victory in High-Scoring Baseball Clash Against St. Thomas More, 14-10

In a non-conference baseball game that featured 25 hits, 24 runs and 12 walks, Oakwood held off visiting St. Thomas More, 14-10, on Friday (April 12).
Carsen Dudley popped three hits while teammates Jackson Dudley, Alec Harrison and Chase Harrison all ended with two hits.
Every Oakwood starter produced at least one hit.
Powering one hit apiece were Derek Drews, Bryson Marcinko, Brody Taflinger, Cort Vermillion and Alex Wallace.
Taflinger drove in three runs and Carsen Dudley had two RBI. Contributing one RBI each were Drews, Jackson Dudley, Alec Harrison, Marcinko, Vermillion and Wallace.
Jackson Dudley – who belted two triples – scored four runs. Carsen Dudley, Alec Harrison, Chase Harrison and Marcinko all tallied two runs. Drews and Taflinger both crossed home plate one time.
Dustin Hughes pitched five innings and earned the win. He walked five and struck out one. Loudyn Hughes threw the last two innings and did not allow an earned run. He walked two and fanned two.
On Saturday (April 13), the Comets split a doubleheader – against different opponents – at home.
In the first game, Oakwood handed Attica (Ind.) a 14-4 loss. In the second game – a makeup – Milford dealt the Comets a 5-2 loss in a Vermilion Valley Conference contest.
Against Attica, all nine starters scored at least one run and the team was 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts.
Drews and Carsen Dudley both slapped two hits. Drew collected three RBI.
Scoring twice were Drews, Wallace, Carsen Dudley, Marcinko and Taflinger. Crossing home plate once were Vermillion, Chase Harrison, Jackson Dudley and Alec Harrison.
The Dudley brothers combined to pitch all five innings. Jackson worked the first three innings, allowing one hit and one run while walking four and fanning five. Carsen threw the last two innings, scattering two hits. He recorded one walk and one strikeout.
Carsen Dudley and Chase Harrison both swiped two bases.
Against Milford, Cooper Hutson’s fourth-inning double drove in Carsen Dudley and Marcinko with the only runs the Comets could score.
Chase Harrison and Marcinko had the team’s other hits.
Alec Harrison pitched the first five innings. He allowed just one hit, but was hampered by eight walks. Harrison posted six strikeouts.
Wallace threw the last two innings. He walked no one and fanned one batter.
Oakwood (7-8) returns to action on Monday (April 15) at Hoopeston Area.
