St. Joseph-Ogden Softball Team Hands Mount Zion First Spring Loss with a 6-3 Victory

Halle Brazelton knocked a two-run home run and Grace Osterbur also drove in two runs on Wednesday (April 17) as the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team became the first one to defeat Mount Zion this spring, collecting a 6-3 non-conference triumph.

Hayden Dahl and Addy Martinie both laced two hits. Martinie and Emma McKinney drove in one run apiece.

McKinney and Osterbur ended with one hit each.

Madison Stevens pitched the first six innings and gathered the win. She allowed seven hits and fanned two batters.

Timera Blackburn-Kelly threw a scoreless seventh inning and recorded all three outs on strikeout.

On Monday (April 15), Addison Frick and Martinie both swatted three hits at Fairbury as the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team defeated Prairie Central, 10-4.

Frick and Martinie each scored two runs.  Frick belted two doubles and Martinie stole two bases.

Osterbur scored three runs. Brazelton drove in two runs.

Blackburn-Kelly pitched five innings and notched eight strikeouts. Reliever Amelia Huckstadt worked two hitless and scoreless innings.

On Tuesday (April 16), Martinie slugged two home runs and knocked in five runs as the Spartans won at Rantoul, 15-5.

Chloe Harper and McKinney each pounded three hits. Martinie and Frick finished with two hits.

Seven of the Spartans’ 13 hits went for extra bases. McKinney swatted two doubles. Brazelton and Ellie Ward also poked doubles. Blackburn-Kelly ripped a triple.

Huckstadt pitched a six-inning complete game, walking three and striking out three.

SJ-O (16-5) is 5-0 in Illini Prairie Conference games. The Spartans return to action on Thursday (April 18) at home against Pontiac.
