Caydence Vermillion Strikes Out 13 in Oakwood’s 5-1 Victory Over Georgetown-Ridge Farm

Caydence Vermillion fired a five-hitter and registered 13 strikeouts on Monday (May 6) as the Oakwood softball team earned a 5-1 win at Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
Gracie Enos produced two hits and drove in two runs. Both Samantha Dunavan and Gracie Hanner scored two runs. Karleigh Nelson also tallied one run.
Sophia Hart collected one RBI.
Joining Enos in the hit parade were Nelson, Hart, Dunavan, Hanner and Olivia Fegett.
On Thursday (May 2), Madi McFarland knocked in two runs and Fegett had one RBI, but the Oakwood softball team fell short at home to Champaign Central, 7-3.
Hanner,Enos and Bella Bradford scored runs for the Comets.
Besides Hanner, Enos, Bradford, McFarland and Fegett, the other Oakwood hit was a single by Hart. Fegett’s hit was a double.
Enos pitched all seven innings. She walked three hitters and struck out three.
Central ended the 14-game hitting streak of Dunavan, who entered the game with hits in 19 of her previous 20 games.
On Friday (May 3), the Comets lost a 15-0 decision at Westville. The lone Oakwood baserunner was Hanner, who was hit by a pitch and stole second.
Hart was the only Oakwood starter who didn’t strike out at least once. Vermillion suffered the loss. She struck out two batters in four innings.
Oakwood (8-19) returns to action on Saturday (May 11) against Salt Fork.
