St. Joseph CCSD #169 Board Seeking Applications to Fill Vacancy After Hewerdine Resignation

St. Joseph Community Consolidated School District #169 is seeking applicants for an open seat on its Board of Education following the resignation of longtime board member Lois Hewerdine.

Hewerdine stepped down during the district’s July 14 board meeting.

To fill the vacancy, the district is now accepting applications from eligible residents. Candidates must meet state requirements, which include being a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a resident within the district’s boundaries for at least one year. Applicants must also not hold another incompatible elected position or have any disqualifying convictions.

Applications are available during regular office hours at the district’s bookkeeping office, located inside St. Joseph Grade School at 404 S. 5th St. The deadline to submit completed materials is Friday, September 5, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.

After the application review process, selected candidates will be interviewed during the September 15, 2025, Board of Education meeting, where the board intends to appoint a new member the same evening.

Community members with questions are encouraged to reach out to Superintendent Lance Landeck at llandeck@stjoe.k12.il.us.
