The University of Illinois Extension’s SNAP-Ed program is kicking off a Holiday Food Drive to help feed families and individuals in need across Champaign County this Thanksgiving season.
From Monday, November 10, through Wednesday, November 26, community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items at the University of Illinois Extension office, located at 801 North Country Fair Drive in Champaign. Donations may be dropped off Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“We know that the holidays can be a challenging time for many families,” said Tracy Bowden, University of Illinois SNAP-Ed educator. “Every food item donated helps ensure that our neighbors have nutritious meals to enjoy during the season.”
The food drive aims to gather a wide variety of shelf-stable foods, including canned goods, pasta, rice, and cereal. All collected items will be distributed to local food pantries and families seeking extra support during the holidays.
The SNAP-Ed program, part of the University of Illinois Extension, focuses on providing nutrition education and promoting healthy eating habits among families with limited resources. This annual community initiative reflects the program’s broader mission of improving food security and access to nutritious meals throughout the region.
