Wyant throws shutout, Hawks defeat Schlarman Academy and Hutsonville

Mason Wyant pitched a five-inning one-hit shutout on Tuesday as Villa Grove/Heritage overpowered visiting Schlarman Academy, 21-0.

Wyant fanned 11 and walked one. He is the team’s fourth pitcher with a shutout victory this spring.

Kane Davison and Carson Howard paced the 15-hit attack with three hits apiece.

Howard drove in four runs. Noah Davison and Nick Coffin (who walked three times) each scored three runs.

Noah Davison hit a home run and had two hits. Teammates with two hits were Keagan Patterson and Austin Grimm.

On Wednesday, Kane Davison clubbed three home runs and drove in eight runs to help the Hawks rally for a 12-9 win at Hutsonville.

VG/Heritage overcame a 9-8 deficit with a four-run seventh inning.

Coffin and Noah Davison had two hits each.

Nathan Chewning was the winning pitcher though he allowed six runs in his one inning on the mound.

Patterson pitched a scoreless seventh inning to register a save.

VG/Heritage (13-6) is scheduled to return to action today, weather permitting, at Arthur Okaw Christian.

Softball

Kyleigh Block struck out eight batters, but the Hawks were held scoreless for the third time this season on Monday and lost a 10-0 decision at Villa Grove.

Gracyn Allen collected two hits for the Hawks.

On Tuesday in Champaign, Bri Struck belted four doubles and Kailee Eldrige contributed four singles as Heritage topped St. Thomas More, 17-12.

Allen picked up the pitching win.

Heritage (7-10) returns to action, weather permitting, today at home against Oakwood.
