SJ-O track and field places third at Monticello Invitational and 10th at Spartan Classic

St. Joseph-Ogden had the winner in four events on Friday and placed third as a team in the 17-school Monticello Sages Girls’ Track and Field Invitational.

Monticello won the meet with 102 points and was followed by Clinton (87) and SJ-O (67).

The Spartans’ individual winners were Maclayne Taylor in the 100 meters (12.67 seconds) and Atleigh Hamilton in the long jump (17 feet).

SJ-O was triumphant in two relays.

The 3,200-meter foursome featured Rylee Sjuts, Jillian Plotner, Hannah Rajlich and Ashlynn Lannert.  They were timed in 10:16.80.

The 1,600 unit included Sjuts, Hamilton, Lannert and Taylor. Their collective time was 4:12.58.

Both the 400- and 800-meter relays placed second.

The 800 relay consisted of Danie Kelso, Hamilton, Sjuts and Taylor. They crossed the finish line in 1:48.54.

The 400 squad was made up of Kelso, Taylor, Hailey Birt and Hamilton. Their time was 51.53 seconds.

The Spartans had  placers in five other individual events.

Ally Monk was fourth in the 3,200 meters (12:50.76), Hope Rajlich was fifth in the 400 meters (1:05.94), Kailyn Ingram was fifth in the 1,600 meters (5:50.05), Payton Vallee was fifth in the discus (104-0) and Abby Behrens was sixth in the high jump (4-8).

SJ-O is scheduled to return to action – weather permitting – on Tuesday in the Illini Prairie Conference Meet.

Boys’ track and field

SJ-O placed 10th on Friday in its own 25-school Spartan  Classic.

The Spartans totaled 32.14 points. Meet champion Monticello had 85 points.

The best SJ-O finishes were from three of its relay teams.

The 800-meter foursome was the meet runner-up. The runners included Dwight Colvin, Aiden Meyer, Kaleb Harshbarger and Lane Gaskin. Their time was 1 minute, 33.16 seconds.

The school’s 400 and 1,600 relays each took third.

The 400 unit featured Colvin, Meyer, Brayden Grimsey and Gaskin. Their time was 44.63 seconds.

Making up the 1,600 relay were Gaskin, Brady Buss, Meyer and Harshbarger. They crossed the finish line in 3:34.29.

The SJ-O 3,200 relay captured fifth place.

That unit included Keanen Swanson, Joel Branson, Lukas Hutcherson and Luke Stegall. Their time was 9:33.69.

Meyer scored a third-place finish in the 100 meters (11.25 seconds).

Ethan Vanliew was sixth in the high jump (5-7), Michael Patterson was seventh in the discus (124-2), Colvin was 10th in the 200 meters (24.09 seconds) and Isiah McCune was 10th in the 1,600 meters (4:56.46).

Additionally, the Spartans’ 400-meter freshmen relay ended fourth. Teaming up in that event were Aaron Wagner-Dillman, Jonathan Poulter, Gabe Preston and Vanliew. Their time was 47.81 seconds.

SJ-O is scheduled to return to action, weather permitting, on Tuesday at the Illini Prairie Conference Meet at Bloomington Central Catholic.
