Oakwood baseball and softball grab wins over Westville

After falling behind by one run in the top of the seventh inning, Oakwood tallied two runs in the bottom of the frame to pull out a walk-off 10-9 triumph on Wednesday over visiting Westville.
Josh Young was 4-for-4 to lead the Comets’ attack. Young knocked in two runs.
Isaiah Ruch collected three hits while Elijah Harden and Jacob Spear each chipped in with two hits. Harden had two RBI and Spear scored two runs.
Brady Howard pitched the first four innings. He yielded six hits, five walks and three strikeouts. Reliever Harden worked the final three innings and earned the win.
Harden walked one and fanned two.
Oakwood (12-9) returns to action today, weather permitting, with a home game against Tri-County.
Softball
Oakwood scored all of its runs in the fifth inning on Wednesday and held on for a 4-2 Vermilion Valley Conference victory against visiting Westville.
Kylie Neuman had two doubles and Aubrey Wells had two hits for the Comets, who totaled seven hits. Neuman and Wells each drove in one run.
Neuman pitched five scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits while walking one and striking out six.
Starter Kerrigan Shafer walked three and struck out three during her two-inning stint.
Oakwood (10-12) returns to action, weather permitting, today against visiting Champaign Central.
