The Comets used a 15-2 third-quarter run to pull away from Armstrong-Potomac on Monday in a quarterfinal game of the Vermilion County Tournament at Danville’s Palmer Arena.
Oakwood prevailed, 41-19.
Katelyn Young scored eight of her game-high 25 points in the third quarter. Ashlynn Pinnick added four third-quarter points.
The Comets led at halftime, 18-13.
On Wednesday, Oakwood pulled away after a slow start – leading 6-4 after one quarter – and ran past Hoopeston Area 37-19.
Young (six points) and Aaliyah Denius (four points) sparked a 17-7 second-quarter run that sent the Comets into the locker room at halftime with a 23-11 lead.
Young hit 16 points for the game. Denius and Pinnick totaled six points apiece.
Oakwood (19-5) has won four consecutive games and made Hoopeston Area the eighth opponent it has held to fewer than 20 points in a game this season.
The Comets return to action on Friday in the 8 p.m. Vermilion County championship game against Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin.
Oakwood is on the verge of a fourth successive 20-win season in girls’ basketball.
