St. Joseph-Ogden Senior Spotlight: Payton Cain, Conner Hodge, Brodie Landreth and Clay Frederick

Payton Cain

Basketball (4 years), Golf (1 year), Baseball (1 year), Football (1 year), NHS, Maroon Platoon, Spanish Club, Future Spartans Mentoring Program

Payton lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has four siblings; one older sister and three older brothers. His main hobby is hanging out with family and friends. Payton’s greatest memories at SJO include both his football and basketball seasons as a senior. After high school, Payton plans to attend Parkland College. He is undecided on his major. After Parkland College, Payton wants to transfer to somewhere in Florida. His advice for future SJO students is to not take anything for granted and to make the most of high school. His favorite classes at SJO were Economics and Civics with Mr. Schacht, all of Mr. Kieffer’s classes, and English with Mrs. Lindenmeyer. Throughout his years of schooling, Payton’s favorite teachers include Mrs. Dunn at St. Joseph Grade School and Mr. Duval at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Payton on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.  

Conner Hodge

Football (4 years), Basketball (4 years), Baseball (4 years), Maroon Platoon

Conner lives in St. Joseph with his family. His hobbies are playing video games, fishing, and hanging out with family and friends. Conner’s greatest memories at SJO include all four years of high school. He had a lot of fun at SJO, and he will always remember his senior year of basketball, as it was a fantastic family atmosphere for him. After high school, Conner is headed to Normal, IL to attend Illinois State University. He will be majoring in business analytics. His advice for future SJO students is to enjoy everything and to take it all in. His favorite classes at SJO were Economics with Mr. Schacht and math with Mr. Duval. Throughout his years of schooling, Conner’s favorite teachers include Mrs. Stevens at St. Joseph Grade School, Mrs. Ford at St. Joseph Middle School, and Mr. Schacht and Mr. Duval at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Conner on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future. 

Brodie Landreth

Football (4 years), Maroon Platoon, FFA

Brodie lives in St. Joseph with his family. He has five siblings: two older brothers, one older sister, one younger brother, and one younger sister. His hobbies include working, watching football, and hanging out with friends. Brodie has many great memories at SJO, and many of those memories revolve around football. He broadcasted SJO football through the NFHS Network all of his four years of high school. He was also the manager of the SJO football team during his senior year, and he enjoyed every moment of this. After high school, Brodie is planning on attending Parkland College to pursue an agricultural major. His advice for future SJO students is to do your homework, listen to your teachers, and do not take anything for granted. His favorite classes at SJO were all of his agriculture classes and P.E. with Mrs. Downs. Throughout his years of schooling, Brodie’s favorite teachers include Mr. Steele at St. Joseph Middle School and Mrs. Downs, Mrs. Duitsman, and Mr. Skinner at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Brodie on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future. 

Clay Frederick

Maroon Platoon, Bass Fishing

Clay lives with his family in St. Joseph. He has one younger sister. His hobbies include motocross racing, fishing, and hunting. Clay has a lot of great memories at SJO. He enjoyed being a part of the Maroon Platoon. He attended most of the SJO home football games, and he had a lot of fun attending the IHSA State Volleyball Tournament this past fall. Being around his friends and classmates at these events made these moments so memorable for Clay. He enjoyed open campus lunches at SJO as well. After high school, Clay is going to pursue a union apprenticeship and wants to get into the electrical union. As a part of this program, he is excited to take classes every Thursday night for the next five years and also work at the same time. His advice for future SJO students is to not get behind on your work. His favorite classes at SJO were Ag Construction and Ag Mech Tech with Mr. Billman and Web Design with Mrs. Harbaugh. Throughout his years of schooling, his favorite teachers include Mrs. Beals at St. Joseph Grade School; Mr. Risley at St. Joseph Middle School; and Mrs. Franzen, Mr. Billman, and Mr. Kieffer at St. Joseph-Ogden High School. Congrats to Clay on all of his accomplishments and best of luck to him in the future.
