The high-scoring Prairieview Ogden junior high baseball team – which is averaging more than 10 runs per game – needed some seventh-inning heroics on Monday to capture its fourth consecutive victory.
The PVO Mustangs received a walk-off hit from Parker Fitch in the bottom of the seventh to post a 5-4 triumph over Rossville-Alvin in Royal.
Fitch drilled three hits in the game and stole four bases.
PVO (4-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to create a 4-4 deadlock. Run-scoring hits by Logan Lackey and Tayton Gerdes highlighted the inning.
Lackey pitched the first 5 1/3 innings. He scattered four hits and struck out 12 batters while walking just one.
Reliever Coy Taylor picked up his second victory after pitching the final 1 2/3 hitless innings. Taylor fanned four and walked one.
On Thursday (Aug. 20), PVO posted a 15-2 triumph at Potomac-Armstrong.
Taylor was the offensive ringleader. He was 5-for-5 with a home run, a double and three singles.
Fitch (who stole five bases) and Graham Ray were other squad members with at least two hits.
Lackey pitched two innings and was credited with the win. Fitch and Ray also had stints on the mound.
PVO returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 27) at home against Westville.
