Heritage’s Kiara Jones crosses finish line first at Edgar County Fairgrounds

Kiara Jones, from Heritage, was the individual winner on Tuesday (Aug. 18) in the team’s opening junior high cross-country meet at the Edgar County Fairgrounds.
Her 2-mile time was 16 minutes, 42.1 seconds. Jones prevailed by 15 seconds.
Chrisman was the team winner in the girls’ meet, 31-45 over Heritage. Paris Mayo didn’t have enough runners to be scored as a team.
Other Heritage runners were Kamryn Soard (eighth in 20:07.2), Madisyn Wilson (11th in 21:46.9), Loren Tate (12th in 21:49.9), Clair Davison (13th in 23:59.9) and Breanna McGarigle (15th in 24:15.3).
In the boys’ race, Heritage teammates Hunter Montgomery and Christian Paul were second and third, respectively.
Montgomery’s 2-mile time was 13:41.3. Paul’s time was 14:40.0.
Clark Roland placed 10th for Heritage in 18:47.0.
The team’s other finishers were Eli Denmark-Collins (17th in 22:09.6) and Atticus Ashbrook (20th in 26:23.1).
Paris Mayo was the team winner with 30 points. Chrisman edged Heritage, 51-52, for second place.
Heritage returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 27) at Champaign St. Matthew.
