Allison Pangburn, Chloe Reardon and Vanessa Wright all went 3-for-3 in a Class 1A softball regional semifinal game, helping Villa Grove conquer visiting Okaw Valley 15-2.

Reardon knocked in six runs. Pangburn and Wright both had two RBI.

The Blue Devils scored six runs in the first inning and never trailed.

Logan Lillard contributed two hits.

Alexandria Brown pitched a complete game. She scattered five hits, walked two, struck out four and did not allow an earned run.

On Saturday (June 5), in a regional championship game where neither pitched allowed an earned run to score, Arcola broke a scoreless duel with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and hung on for a 2-1 triumph over visiting Villa Grove at Moore Park.

A seventh-inning double by Kaylee Arbuckle drove in Maci Clodfelder with the lone Blue Devil run.

VG was limited to three hits. Clodfelder hit a single and Pangburn delivered a double.

Brown pitched a complete game, scattering six hits, walking two and striking out three.

The Villa Grove seniors were Kyleigh Block and Addison Fisher.

The team’s pitching leaders for the season were Brown (6-7 record) and Block (4-5 record). They had nearly identical earned run averages. Block finished with a 4.47 ERA for 61 innings pitched. Brown ended with a 4.48 ERA for 65 2/3 innings pitched.

Block (54) and Brown (51) were the team-leaders in strikeouts.

For 26 games played, VG averaged 7.4 runs per game and allowed an average of 5.5 runs per game.

Offensively, six squad members ended the year with batting averages of at least .300: Pangburn (.424), Block (410), Wright (.397), Clodfelder (.381), Lillard (.353) and Brown (337).

Wright had the most doubles (10), Pangburn had the most triples (8) and Clodfelder had the most home runs (4). Block and Clodfelder had the most stolen bases (10).

Pangburn and Clodfelder had the most extra-base hits (15). Pangburn had the most games with two, or more, hits (12).

Villa Grove ends the season with an overall record of 12-14. The team scored an average of 7.4 runs per game and allowed an average of 5.5 runs per game.

Maci Clodfelder swatted three hits on Tuesday (June 1) for Villa Grove, which battled back from a 9-3 deficit, but fell short to visiting Blue Ridge 11-9 in a Lincoln Prairie Conference softball game.

Allison Pangburn knocked two hits and drove in three runs. Clodfelder and Addison Fisher each scored three runs. Fisher reached base all four times she batted, with a single and three walks.

Alexandria Brown and Emma Bratten-Noice shared the pitching duties. Bratten-Noice allowed two hits and no runs in her four-inning relief stint. She walked two and struck out one.

Villa Grove (11-13) returns to action on Thursday (June 3) at home in a first-round Class 1A regional game against Okaw Valley.

Heritage dropped a 15-0 loss on Tuesday (June 1) in its regular-season finale at home to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Sharing the pitching duties for the Hawks were Destanee Morgan, Adena Paul and Malani Smithenry.

On Wednesday (June 2), ninth-seeded St. Thomas More took out eighth-seeded Heritage 15-5 in a Class 1A regional quarterfinal game at Broadlands.

Heritage and the season with a 1-14 overall record. The Hawks averaged 2.9 runs per game with a high game of seven runs against Tri-County.

The team’s seniors were Cheyenne Bear, Anna Sanders, Smithenry and Alex Ward.

Kaylee Arbuckle and Emma Bratten-Noice each belted three hits on Monday (May 24) as the Blue Devils won a softball game at Arcola, 6-4.

Bratten-Noice wound up with a single, double and home run. She drove in three runs.

Alexandria Brown pitched all seven innings. She walked one and struck out three. Brown delivered two hits. Chloe Reardon drove in two runs.

On Tuesday (May 25), Kyleigh Block struck out a season-high 17 batters in a 6-1 win at home over Oakwood.

Maci Clodfelder whacked a double and a home run and drove in four runs. Allison Pangburn and Vanessa Wright each totaled two hits.

Block scored two runs. On the way to her third successive pitching win, Block walked no one and scattered four singles.

On Wednesday (May 26), Bratten-Noice pitched a complete-game, five-inning four-hitter to earn her first varsity win as the Blue Devils swamped Tri-County 21-2.

Bratten-Noice struck out five and walked no one.

She was backed by a 15-hit attack that featured eight Villa Grove extra-base hits. Pangburn socked three triples and collected five RBI to go with four runs scored. Clodfelder homered for the second game in a row and delivered four RBI for the second consecutive game.

Wright scored three runs and added two doubles. Brown and Bratten-Noice contributed two hits apiece. Kayla Cordes scored three runs. Chloe Reardon, Brown, Bratten-Noice and Clodfelder crossed home plate twice.

Villa Grove (11-12) returns to action on Thursday (May 27), weather permitting, at home against Argenta-Oreana. The Blue Devils have won five of their last six games.

Kyleigh Block delivered four hits and pitched four innings of four-hit ball on Friday (May 21) as the Blue Devils earned a 14-2 softball win at Armstrong-Potomac.

Maci Clodfelder contributed three hits and three RBI. Alexandria Brown and Kaylee Arbuckle ended with two hits apiece.

Emma Bratten-Noice pitched the final three scoreless innings.

On Saturday (May 22), Villa Grove split a doubleheader against Salt Fork in Catlin, losing the first game 4-3, but winning the second game 8-6.

Vanessa Wright was 4-for-4 with three RBI in Game 2. Allison Pangburn and Arbuckle each added two hits in the game.

Block pitched all seven innings and picked up the win. She walked four and fanned eight.

In the opener, Clodfelder knocked in two runs and Pangburn tallied two runs.

Brown pitched six innings, walked one and struck out nine, but took the loss.

Villa Grove (8-12) returns to action on Monday (May 24) at Arcola.

Vanessa Wright had two hits and scored three runs on Thursday (May 13) as the Blue Devils topped visiting Georgetown-Ridge Farm 7-5 in a non-conference softball game.

Kayln Cordes knocked in two of Villa Grove’s runs.

The Blue Devils broke a 5-5 tie with a two-run fifth-inning.

The Blue Devils were limited to six hits. One was a single by Kyleigh Block.

Alexandria Brown pitched a complete game for VG and won her third consecutive game. She walked two and struck out five in her seven-inning stint.

On Friday (May 14), the Blue Devils snapped an 8-8 deadlock with a sixth-inning run and Block pitched two innings of scoreless relief as Villa Grove captured a 9-8 win at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.

Allison Pangburn and Maci Clodfelder each hammered three hits for VG. Vanessa Wright, who slugged a home run, drove in four runs.

Block, Brown and Wright all finished with two hits. Clodfelder totaled three RBI. Block extended her hitting streak to 11 games.

Brown pitched the first five innings to post her fourth consecutive win.

On Saturday (May 15), the Blue Devils dropped an 8-4 decision at home to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. All four of the VG runs were scored in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Blue Devils had four hits for the game and three went for extra bases: triples by Chloe Reardon and Vanessa Wright and a double by Emma Bratten-Noice. Reardon knocked in two runs.

Villa Grove (6-10) returns to action on Monday (May 17) at home against Argenta-Oreana.

Emma Bratten-Noice hit her first home run of the season and finished Villa Grove’s first no-hitter of the softball season on Monday (May 10), a 15-0 triumph at home over Cerro Gordo/Bement.

Alexandria Brown pitched the first two innings of the gem, walking one and striking out four. Bratten-Noice struck out two of the three batters she faced in the third and final inning.

Five Blue Devils contributed at least two hits, led by Allison Pangburn, who was 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple.

Teammates with two hits were Kyleigh Block, Brown, Maci Clodfelder and Kayln Cordes. Brown had three RBI.

The win was the third in a row for VG, which has scored 48 runs in that span. During a six-game losing streak that preceded the turnaround, the Blue Devils had managed seven total runs.

On Wednesday (May 12), a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning enabled Fisher to get past the Blue Devils 9-6.

Clodfelder stroked a home run for VG.

Kaylee Arbuckle and Block each had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Block pitched a complete game and struck out five.

Villa Grove (4-9) returns to action on Thursday at home against Georgetown-Ridge Farm.

Logan Lillard and Vanessa Wright each collected two hits on Thursday (April 29), but the Villa Grove softball team came up on the short end of a 5-3 score at Casey-Westfield.

Lillard scored two of the VG runs. Wright, Alexandria Brown and Addison Fisher had the Blue Devils’ runs batted in.

Lillard pitched all six innings. She issued one walk and struck out three.

On Friday (April 30), Allison Pangburn’s fourth-inning double drove in Emma Bratte-Noice and Brown, but that was all the offense the Blue Devils could manage against Owensboro (Ky.) Catholic in a 6-2 loss.

Seven players had hits for VG. Kyleigh Block (three innings) and Brown (two innings) shared the pitching duties.

On Saturday (May 1), the Blue Devils lost the final two games on their Kentucky trip, 9-1 to Green County and 6-0 against Central Hardin.

Kayln Cordes drove in Maci Clodfelder with the lone VG run for the day. Block connected for two hits against Central Hardin.

Block was one of four Villa Grove players with hits in all three games in Kentucky. Joining her were Lillard, Clodfelder and Brown.

Kyleigh Block and Maci Clodfelder each drove in five runs on Monday (April 26) as Villa Grove shutout Heritage 21-0 in a softball game in Broadlands.

Block drilled a home run. Clodfelder socked two doubles.

Emma Bratten-Noice, Alexandria Brown, Clodfelder and Allison Pangburn all finished with two hits apiece.

Vanessa Wright, who pitched two hitless innings and struck out six batters, earned the win. Wright also scored three runs as did Brown, Clodfelder and Pangburn.

Logan Lillard pitched the last two innings and recorded two strikeouts.

On Tuesday (April 27), the Blue Devils were shut out, falling 13-0 at Tuscola.

Pangburn’s single was the lone VG hit and extended her hitting streak to four games.
