The Heritage Hawks’ 3,200-meter relay collected a 28th-place finish in the IHSA Class 2A boys’ track and field state meet, which ended on Saturday (May 25).

The relay runners were Clark Roland, Cohen Sands, Aidan Ashbrook, and Eli Denmark-Collins.

They were timed in 8:42.98. The relay was the lone Hawk entry at state.

The Heritage 3,200-meter relay team qualified for State by placing second on Friday (May 17) in the 16-school IHSA Class 1A sectional at Salt Fork.

The grouping of senior Aidan Ashbrook, senior Cohen Sands, freshman Clark Roland and sophomore Eli Denmark-Collins was timed in 8:40.44.

Heritage athletes secured top-10 finishes in two other events.

Ashbrook ran eighth in the 800 meters (2:13.35). Junior Hunter Montgomery was eighth in the 3,200 meters (12:52.58).

Neither runner advanced to state.

Heritage totaled 10 points at the sectional and finished in 14th place.

Heritage junior Loran Tate placed 25th in the triple jump on Thursday (May 16) in the IHSA girls’ Class 1A state track and field meet at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston.

There were 35 entries in the event.

Tate’s top jump was 32 feet, 8 inches.

She was the Hawks’ only state-meet competitor.

Heritage eighth-grader Christian Paul was a two-event placer in the IESA Class 1A boys’ state track and field meet.

Paul achieved personal-best times in both of his races, placing seventh in each one.

In the 800 meters, he was timed in 2:16.18. In the 1,600 meters, his final time was 5:01.48.

One other teammate joined Paul at state, which ended on Saturday (May 11) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.

Landin McComas wound up 25th in the shot put (34 feet, 2 inches).

Heritage placed 35th in the team standings with four points. Meet champion Farmer City Blue Ridge totaled 37 points.

Junior Loran Tate clinched a state berth in the IHSA girls’ Class 1A track and field state meet by virtue of her performance on Thursday (May 9) at the 17-school St. Anne Sectional.

Tate placed third in the triple jump (34 feet, 1 inch), but exceeded the IHSA’s automat qualifying mark.

Tate also ran third in the 100 meters (13.30 seconds) and fourth in the 200 meters (28.19 seconds), but did not qualify in the running events.

Teammate Bri Ploense was seventh in the 100 meters (13.70  seconds).

Two of the Hawks’ relays fared well at the sectional.

The 400-meter relay, featuring Tate, Alex Tatman, Madi Wilson and Ploense, was fifth in 54.21 seconds.

Sharing the baton for the eighth-place 800-meter relay were Tatman, Bailee Lubben, Wilson and Ploense. Their cumulative time was 2:06.38.

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin earned the team crown with 120 points. Heritage placed 10th with 24 points.

Tate will return to action on Thursday (May 16) in the state semifinals at Charleston. All finalists will return to Eastern Illinois University on Saturday (May 18).

Heritage eighth-grader Kalyn Miller won the shot put on Saturday (May 4) in the IESA Rantoul Class 1A girls’ sectional track and field meet.

She qualified for state with a personal-best toss of 28 feet, 4 inches.

She is the lone Heritage state-qualifier.

Miller was sixth in the discus, but did not advance. Her top toss was 72 feet, 7 inches.

Other Heritage eighth-graders who finished among the top six at the sectional were Reaghan Stierwalt (third in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 6:35.29), Willa Tatman (fourth in the long jump at 12 feet, 9 inches), Leah DelRossi (fourth in the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:52.81) and Peyton Curry-Varner (sixth in the shot put with a personal-best 21 feet, 10 inches).

Additionally, the team’s 1,600-meter placed third in 5:03.77. The runners were Kimber Sands, Rylen Stierwalt, Del Rossi and Reaghan Stierwalt.

Prairieview Ogden captured the team crown with 115 points. Heritage was fourth in the 12-school event with 32 points.

The state meet will be held on Friday (May 10) and Saturday (May 11) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.

The top seventh-grade placer for Heritage in the Rantoul IESA Class 1A girls’ track and field sectional was 800-meter runner Gwen Keely.

She was the runner-up in the race with a personal-best 2:53.83.

Team honors were won by Schlarman Academy with 105 points. Heritage was 11th with eight points.

Heritage Junior High Boys’ Track and Field

Eighth-grader Christian Paul was a two-event state qualifier for the Heritage Junior High boys’ track and field team.

In the Rantoul IESA Sectional on Saturday (May 4), Paul finished second in both the 800 meters (personal-best 2:18.93) and the 1,600 meters (5:14.43).

Teammate Colby Schrock was a top finisher in both races, but did not qualify for state.

Schrock ran third in the 1,600 meters (personal-best 5:56.80) and fourth in the 800 meters (personal-best 2:52.67).

The other Heritage state-qualifier was Landin McComas in the shot put (personal-best 36 feet, 1 inch).

The team championship was captured by Tri-Point with 97 ½ points. Heritage was sixth in the 16-school meet with 30 points.

The top placer for the Heritage seventh-grade boys track and field team in the Rantoul IESA Class 1A sectional was Michael George in the shot put.

His top toss was 29 feet, 5 inches and he took second.

The meet titlist was Schlarman Academy with 81 points. Heritage was 11th with eight points.

Five different Heritage athletes collected top-10 finishes on Friday (May 3) in the 12-school Lincoln Prairie Conference boys’ track and field meet at Argenta-Oreana.

Placing in two events was Clark Roland (ninth in the long jump at 18 feet, 4 inches and 10th in the 400 meters in 56.31 seconds).

Other team leaders were Aidan Ashbrook (sixth in the 800 meters in 2:14.31), Eli Denmark-Collins (ninth in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 5:03.94), Hunter Montgomery (ninth in the 3,200 meters in 12:50.78) and Cohen Sands (ninth in the 800 meters in 2:24.06.

The Hawks’ 3,200-meter relay foursome of Ashbrook, Sands, Roland and Denmark-Collins placed second in 8:47.27.

Team honors were taken home by Sullivan (170 points) with second-place Villa Grove totaling 76 points. Heritage was 10th with nine points.

On Monday (May 6), the Hawks’ 3,200-meter relay team was victorious in the four-school Last Chance Meet at Bismarck-Henning.

Sharing the baton were Ashbrook, Sands, Roland and Denmark-Collins. Their combined time was 8:48.10.

Roland took third in the 400 meters (55.95 seconds) and fourth in the long jump (18 feet, 1 inch).

Also placing among the top five for Heritage were Ashbrook, the runner-up in the 800 meters (2:10.24) and Montgomery, who ran fourth in the 3,200 meters (13:05.11). 

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin won the meet with 66 points. Heritage was fourth with 12 points.

The Hawks return to action on Friday (May 17) in the 17-school Salt Fork Class 1A Sectional at Catlin.

Junior Loran Tate recorded a first-place, a second-place, and a third-place finish individually for Heritage on Friday (May 3) in the 12-team Lincoln Prairie Conference girls’ track and field meet at Argenta-0reana.

Tate was also part of a fourth-place relay.

She was triumphant in the triple jump (34 feet, 5 inches) and placed second in the 100 meters (personal-best 13.27 seconds). She was third in the 200 meters (28.34 seconds).

Tate teamed up with Alex Tatman, Bri Ploense and Madi Wilson for a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter relay (53.32 seconds).

Ploense ended ninth in the 100 meters (13.79 seconds).

The Hawks’ other top-placing relay was the eighth-place 800-meter unit of Tatman, Ploense, Wilson and Bailee Lubben. Their final time was 2:02.45.

Team honors were captured by Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond with 123 points. Runner-up Sullivan had 77 points. Heritage tied for seventh with 28 points.

Heritage will return to action on Thursday (May 9) in the 17-school St. Anne Class 1A Sectional.

Heritage’s Clark Roland was a three-event placer on Monday (April 29) in an 18-team freshman-sophomore boys’ track and field meet at Tuscola.

Roland was the runner-up in the long jump (18 feet, 4 inches). He ran fourth in the 400 meters (56.22 seconds) and took ninth in the 100 meters (personal-best 12.36 seconds).

Teammate Eli Denmark-Collins logged a new personal-best in the 3,200-meter race. He was timed in 11:34.14 and took second.

The Hawks will return to action on Friday (May 3) in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Meet at Argenta-Oreana.
