The Hawks used a 28-point third-quarter on Friday to pull away from Arthur Okaw Christian, 65-40, in a non-conference game at Heritage.

VG/H carried a 26-23 lead into halftime, but built its lead to 54-31 after three quarters.

Blake Smith netted a season-high 21 points to lead the Hawks. He drained four three-point shots, also a season high.

Logan Nohren added 19 points and Nick Coffin scored 10 points.

VG/H is 7-3 overall and returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 26 in its own BSN Tournament, with games at 11:30 a.m. against Georgetown-Ridge Farm and at 7 p.m. against Judah Christian.

Logan Nohren scored a season-high 24 points on Tuesday, but the Hawks were beaten at Tuscola 64-43.

Ierik Sorenson scored five points for VG/H (6-3), which trailed 35-18 at halftime. Tuscola has a 5-0 season record.

The Hawks return to action on Friday with a game at Heritage against Arthur Okaw Christian.

The Comets bounced back from a Thursday night loss to win their home-opener on Saturday, a 49-15 triumph over previously unbeaten Blue Ridge in first-round action at the Comet Classic.

Katelyn Young had her third consecutive 20-point game to start the season, notching a game-high 22 points. Aubrey Wells hit two three-pointers and contributed 10 points.

Addie Wright totaled six points.

Oakwood led 19-4 after one quarter and 33-8 at halftime.

On Thursday at Arthur, Oakwood lost a 42-35 decision to Arthur Okaw Christian. Young scored 20 points while Wright and Ashlynn Pinnick each chipped in with five points.

The Comets (2-1) return to action tonight against Urbana University High in a second-round game of the Comet Classic, scheduled for a 7 o’clock tipoff. Uni defeated Rantoul 52-39 on Saturday.
