The Spartans played their fourth 1-0 soccer match of the season on Thursday (Sept. 23) and came out on the winning end when sophomore Spencer Wilson netted a second-half goal.

His game-winning shot followed an assist by senior Jared Emmert.

Hunter Ketchum totaled six saves.

The Spartans are 2-2 in 1-0 games this season. SJ-O has won three of its matches by shutout.

On Saturday (Sept. 25), St. Joseph-Ogden rallied to defeat Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2-1 in a Senior Night soccer match at home.

After a scoreless first half, the visiting Buffaloes scored first, before two SJ-O seniors went into action.

Emmert scored the tying goal, with an assist from Brennan Haake.

“Brennan Haake placed a flip throw into the box and Jared Emmert volleyed it in,” Spartans coach Bill DeJarnette said.

Spencer Wilson netted the game-winning goal.

Hunter Ketchum had nine saves in goal.

SJ-O (10-6-1) returns to action on Monday (Sept. 27) at Champaign Judah Christian.

Aiden Cromwell netted two first-half goals and Spencer Wilson added a goal and an assist before intermission, leading St. Joseph-Ogden to a 6-1 soccer victory over Tolono Unity.

SJ-O led 4-0 at halftime. Brennan Haake, Collin Thomey and Charlie Schmitz had the Spartans’ other goals.

Garrett Siems, Jackson Greer and Will Page also added assists.

Junior Jackson Greer scored two goals and had one assist on Friday (Sept. 17) as the St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team edged Blue Ridge at home, 4-3.

Greer’s first goal accounted for the only scoring in the first half.

Aiden Cromwell netted a goal and teammate Brennan Haake also scored for the Spartans, on a penalty kick. Will Page had one assist.

Goalkeeper Hunter Ketchum finished with five saves.

On Saturday (Sept. 18), the Spartans suffered a 1-0 loss at Chillicothe IVC. The schools were tied, 0-0, at halftime.

It was SJ-O’s second 1-0 loss of the season and third one-goal setback.

Ketchum stopped 10 shots.

SJ-O (7-6-1) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 21) at home against Tolono Unity.

Junior Aiden Cromwell scored two goals on Wednesday (Sept. 15) as the St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team shut out its second consecutive opponent, winning 3-0 at Stanford Olympia.

SJ-O led, 1-0, at halftime on a goal by Cromwell, assisted by Garrett Siems.

Brennan Haake also netted a goal for the Spartans. Teammates with assists were Jared Emmert and Owen Baltzell.

Goalkeepers Hunter Ketchum and Carter Mabry teamed up for the shutout. Ketchum had five saves in 60 minutes. Mabry had four saves in 20 minutes.

SJ-O (6-5-1) returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 18) at Chillicothe IVC.

The Spartans’ soccer team won one of three matches in the two-day Cornjerker Classic, in Hoopeston, which ended on Saturday (Sept. 11).

SJ-O was shut out by Grant Park, 2-0, and Monticello, 1-0. The Spartans edged Iroquois West, 1-0, on a Collin Thomey goal which was assisted by Brennan Haake.

The shutout was the team’s first of the season.

For the season, SJ-O is 3-2 in matches decided by one goal.

Goalkeeper Hunter Ketchum had 15 saves on Monday (Aug. 23) as the St. Joseph-Ogden soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 triumph at Oakwood.

Aiden Cromwell’s goal, assisted by Brennan Haake, helped SJ-O into a 1-0 halftime lead.

Will Page converted a penalty kick to provide the margin of victory for the Spartans.

On Tuesday (Aug. 24), Spenser Wilson’s second goal came with two-tenths of a second to play and broke a tie as SJ-O won its home-opener, 3-2, over Argenta-Oreana.

Greer Jackson got SJ-O on the board with the lone tally of the first half, thanks to an assist by Page.

Jackson assisted on Wilson’s first goal of the second half.

Ketchum stopped eight shots.

SJ-O (2-0) returns to action on Thursday (Aug. 26) at home against Urbana Uni High.
