Junior Kyle McFarland tied for fifth individually on Tuesday (Aug. 25), with a season-best 45, as Oakwood placed third in a four-team golf meet at Shewami Country Club, in Watseka.

Other Oakwood scores were: Case Kopacz (48), Mason Goodner (55), Nate Stewart (65), Will Crippin (69) and Lily Harden (74).

Watseka was the meet winner, compiling a composite score of 174. Runner-up Milford had a 202, followed by Oakwood (213) and Westville (275).

The Comets (4-4) return to action on Monday (Aug. 30) at Tuscola.

On Monday (Aug. 16), the Comets finished 15^th in the Urbana Tiger Kickoff Classic at Urbana Country Club. Oakwood had a team composite score of 465.

Kyle McFarland’s 98 was the team’s top score. Other Oakwood leaders were Case Kopacz (101), Mason Goodner (121), Lily Harden (145), Nate Stewart (155) and Riley Whaling (188).

Kopacz shot a 46 and was the runner-up on Wednesday (Aug. 18) in  a dual meet against St. Joseph-Ogden on the back nine at Harrison Park, in Danville.

SJ-O won the match, 193-212.

The Comets’ other participants were Goodner (53), McFarland (54), Stewart (59), Whaling (67) and Harden (72).

Oakwood (2-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 24) at Shewami Country Club against Watseka, Milford and Westville.

Oakwood Golf

Oakwood’s golf team finished second in a season-opening four-school meet on Friday (Aug. 13) hosted by Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at Turtle Run, in Danville.

Comets Case Kopacz and Kyle McFarland finished in a four-way tie for second place individually. They fired 47s and were one stroke behind the medalist.

Other team-leaders were Mason Goodner (53), Nate Stewart (67) and Lily Harden (71).

B-H/R-A captured team honors with a composite four-player score of 197. Oakwood (214) edged out Hoopeston Area (215) for second place. Milford (232) placed fourth.

Oakwood is 2-1 and returns to action on Monday (Aug. 16) at the Urbana Tiger Kickoff Classic.
